James E. S. (Jesh) Humphrey IV
James S. (“Jesh”) Humphrey IV serves as Vice Chancellor of Institutional Integrity and General Counsel for UNC Charlotte, providing legal counsel as the university’s senior attorney and maintaining responsibility for the supervision and administration of the Division of Institutional Integrity. The Division of Institutional Integrity is UNC Charlotte’s newest division, and includes the Office of Legal Affairs, the Office of Ethics and Compliance, the Title IX Office, the Internal Audit Department, and Enterprise Risk Management.
Jesh was appointed General Counsel in 2016 and charged with establishing and leading the Division of Institutional Integrity in 2017. He previously served as Chief Legal Officer for the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and as Assistant Vice President for Legal Affairs for the University of North Carolina. Prior to moving in-house with the University of North Carolina, Jesh served as outside counsel to corporate and education clients in private practice with Helms, Mulliss & Wicker, PLLC (now McGuireWoods LLP).
Jesh received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Jesh has served in leadership roles in the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and the North Carolina Bar Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of Corvian Community School, a North Carolina public charter school. Jesh maintains an appointment as an associate member of UNC Charlotte’s Graduate Faculty, regularly teaching education law to graduate students in the Department of Educational Leadership.
