Shaping What’s Next, 2021-31, our new ten-year strategic plan

Dear Niner Nation,

I am writing to share good news. Last week, the Board of Trustees approved Shaping What’s Next, 2021-31, our new ten-year strategic plan.

Shaping What’s Next is the product of a comprehensive planning process that was led by an extraordinary strategic planning committee composed of faculty, staff, administrators and students. I am very appreciative of the commitment and hard work of the committee and the interest and engagement of our campus community. Shaping What’s Next was informed by nearly 6,000 members of Niner Nation and friends of the University, who collectively contributed more than 13,000 ideas and suggestions.

The committee shaped this feedback into an aspirational 10-year strategic plan, which sets the University’s vision, mission, guiding commitments, strategic focus areas, goals, objectives and actions. Metrics have also been developed to ensure accountability and to measure the progress in achieving the strategic goals. An online dashboard has been developed and will be updated at least annually.

Shaping What’s Next builds on UNC Charlotte’s strengths while articulating a vision for a top-tier university that is ready to meet new challenges. It emphasizes the importance of academic excellence, research, scholarship and creative activity, and diversity, equity and inclusivity.

The plan will be updated at the five-year mark, resetting the objectives, actions and metrics as appropriate to ensure that we continue moving forward to achieve our goals and vision. The strategic plan provides the blueprint, but it is Niner Nation’s collective momentum and motivation that will fearlessly shape what’s next for our great University!
